Minsk is the capital of Belarus. Historically, Minsk has been divided into several areas, which have been eliminated territorially, but the old names still remain until today. Geographically, the city is divided into two parts by the river Svisloch. The capital of Belarus welcomes its visitors with European class hotels and restaurants. Visitors' interests of any range will be satisfied by the vast selection of museums, libraries and monuments. One of the most exciting places to see is the Minsk Zoo. It features a huge collection of animals, birds, insects and amphibians. Over 70 kinds of reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates are on a display at all times in a special exhibit. LAKE NAROCH
This lake is one of the biggest and most beautiful lakes in Belarus. It is famous for its clarity of water, on a clear day you can see as deep as 10 meters down. Since the 1960's, when health centers and resorts were built, this place has become one of the most popular destinations for Russian girls and people in general.
A particular point of interest is that many of the Belarus native and unique kinds of flora and fauna have been preserved at this lake and in its surroundings. The fish population of the lake has been actively restored in the recent years and it is possible to get a permit for fishing in Naroch, an opportunity that allows many fishermen to find pleasure in relaxing on the banks of the lake.
MIRSKIY CASTLE
This castle is located 100 km from Minsk and dates back to the 16th century. It is located near a small settlement Mir, from which it takes its name. The castle has been restored and rebuilt many times after being destroyed in wars, it has changed owners many times, along with its appearance. The castle is a unique architectural memorial, which combines various styles: gothic, renaissance and baroque. The walls of the castle are 13 meters tall and in some places their width reaches 3 meters. The entrance tower impresses with 25 meters of height and 6 levels of construction. The surroundings of the castle please the eye with a picturesque lake and a park with a quiet chapel. One of the five towers contains an exhibit of historic information about the castle and its owners. The castle itself was included in the list of UNESCO worldwide cultural and natural heritage sites in 2000.
