TASHKENT
Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan. It gained this status only recently in 1991, but the history of the city is over 2000 years old. During this time, a small settlement near oasis of Chirchik River has blossomed into one of the largest cities of Central Asia. Tashkent is surrounded with fields and fruit gardens, which are an evidence of agricultural development in the past.

A large part of an old city, which contained many architectural and historical sights, was destroyed by an earthquake of 1966. It was later restored by workers from all over Former USSR, but as a result the city now is a vivid example of Soviet architecture.

Tashkent is rich in theaters, museums, libraries and scientific establishments, which make it a large cultural and scientific center. There are many cafes and restaurants, which give plenty of opportunities to try traditional food. Mountains are located nearby the city, where visitors can attend summer or skiing resorts.
