Geography: the largest FSU state, over 17 000 square kilometers, is located in Europe and Asia simultaneously. It extensive borders meet China, Korea, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Norway.
Climate: temperate continental on the majority of the territory, arctic and subarctic in some northern areas, subtropical on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasian mountains. Most areas have extensive, cold winters and hot summers.
Religion: mainly Christian orthodox with some Catholics, Muslims, Jews and Buddhists.
